Newey elaborates on future plans: 'That's the goal'
- Jeroen Immink
Adrian Newey is entering his last year at Red Bull Racing. After almost two decades at the Austrian racing team, the Brit is leaving Max Verstappen's team. It is not yet clear what Newey will do in the future, but the Brit recently gave a hint of what he will do.
Ferrari, Aston Martin and Williams are the main candidates to bring in Newey. Lewis Hamilton, who is set to leave for Ferrari, made no secret of his eagerness to work with Newey. Aston Martin drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll also publicly announced that Newey is a top candidate for their team. In addition, Williams team boss James Vowles revealed to have already held talks with Newey. Newey has previously worked at Williams, where he was also very successful.
Newey makes himself heard
Speaking to Sky Sports, Newey elaborated on his possible future plans. Meanwhile, Red Bull has blocked his access to briefings, and he is not allowed to collaborate on next year's car. "I'm still working on the RB17, then just taking time off. Last week, we took 7 days. We had lucky timing on the weather obviously. We went around the south coast with our dogs in an old Aston Martin DB6 and that was great fun," Newey revealed.
Newey was then asked if he would have an idea of his future plans in the autumn or winter. The Brit responded firmly. "Yes. That's certainly the target. By then, I'll need to have made my mind up."
