Isack Hadjar, who was driving Sergio Perez's RB20 in FP1, had to answer to the stewards for impeding Lando Norris. It earned Red Bull Racing a €20,000 fine and Hadjar a warning. The Red Bull junior gave an explanation after the session and Helmut Marko also reacted to the FIA's punishment.

Penalty for Red Bull after Hadjar and Norris incident

"I impeded Lando, went to the stewards, but it was all clear. I mean, I couldn't see him and I've been told about him quite late and, I mean, usual stuff in F1, comes at you so fast and it was a bit busy as well, but all good," Hadjar explained after being asked by GPblog.

Marko watched with interest Hadjar's performance in FP2, which he finished with a 19th time. "First of all, he had two runs, just aerodynamics and another run for some suspension. And he didn't get the soft tyre, so it was not a performance run," began Marko, who felt the stewards' action was very harsh. "And unfortunately, the warning that he didn't see Norris and 20,000 is quite harsh. It’s what he’s earning all year," joked the advisor.

Hadjar enjoyed his third appearance in free practice, having also been allowed to compete twice in 2023. "It was unbelievable to drive in FP1 today. It honestly felt like the first time in the car again and the braking and the high speed in the RB20 are just on another level," said the F2 driver.

"My last FP1 was in Abu Dhabi and it was quite limited mileage, so it was unbelievable to drive around this iconic and fast track here at Silverstone. The conditions were pretty good and fully dry, we expected some wet spots but the grip was actually very good which was surprising. It’s been a while since I’ve been in this car, but it is always great to be back with the Team and to know the procedures."
