Despite Red Bull Racing's disappointing pace at Silverstone, Max Verstappen eventually managed to finish second behind Lewis Hamilton. Christian Horner has words of praise for both his driver and the team at the pit wall, who collectively made the right choices at the right times.

Verstappen was also concerned with strategy during the race. Together with his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase and the strategy team, he was on top of things throughout the race. "I think it's the way that the pit wall and the car are working together. So Max is obviously feeling what's going on, but the pit wall have got more information than he has. So, he's sharing that information and making the right calls at the right time. And I think today we nailed it," Horner told Viaplay.

There were a few moments during the first and second stints when Verstappen's pace fell back, both on mediums and intermediates. How that happened, Horner does not yet know how to explain.

"It's really weird. I think one minute McLaren looked the fastest car on the track, then it was Mercedes and I think these tires are so temperature sensitive that one minute you're the fastest car on the track next minute you're nowhere and it balanced out as it got drier but it was quite confusing. At one point you can see now that also Mercedes is getting mixed in to the fight for the victories now," continued the Red Bull team principal.

Asked if he expects the rest of the season to look like this, Horner replied, "I think it's going to be tight the rest of the year. I mean in the cooler temperatures, the Mercedes have always been strong, and look, congrats to Lewis on, after three years, winning a big race for him at the British Grand Prix."
