Verstappen has bad news for F1 fans: 'Then it's going to be different again'
- Ludo van Denderen
After an intensive triple header, it is not a weekend of complete rest for Max Verstappen. Although the Red Bull Racing driver is not running a Grand Prix this Sunday, he did get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car during a short demonstration run in England. Moreover, on 'enemy' soil, the Dutchman looked back on the first 12 races of the '24 F1 season.
Verstappen has managed to win a Grand Prix seven times this year, but the fact is that the differences with the competition have narrowed considerably. Briton Lando Norris in particular is proving to be a constant louse in Verstappen's fur, just as George Russell and Lewis Hamilton already won a Grand Prix in '24.
"We have had some great years, of course this year also started off really competitively and now everyone is catching up a bit. Every race is a proper battle as well so it’s great and I think that will continue also for the rest of the season. So it’s really unknown what is going to happen and that’s great for the sport," Verstappen said on the podium at the Goodwood Festival.
Verstappen finds battle beautiful for fans
Last year, Verstappen often won with huge supremacy. This year, he has to fight harder for it, which may make a victory more beautiful. To that, Verstappen responded, "I mean in general it’s just great to have so many fantastic drivers in Formula One and making it difficult to win. I think everyone was waiting for that as well."
"It's definitely what Formula One fans want so to have this is great, between so many different teams as well. Probably, with the new rules, it will be a bit different again for the first two years but we’ll see. But it’s going to be a great rest of the year."
