Verstappen laughs at good 'longrun data': 'Then you have other data'
Max Verstappen hopes he can keep up with the McLarens at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Dutchman thinks Red Bull Racing will have to make a difference with the strategic decisions, as the race pace may not be good enough.
"We will see today [Sunday]. Yesterday [Saturday] was maybe not ideal but hopefully, the car comes a bit more alive in the race. That's what we're hoping for. I’m just hoping for a good, stable balance so that we can try to follow the McLarens today. They are going to be very, very fast. There are a lot of races left and we just keep on pushing, trying to be better," Verstappen revealed at the Drivers Parade ahead of the race.
What Verstappen expects from Hungarian GP
The interviewer asked if he had also seen that the Red Bull's long data was better. "We must be looking at different data then," Verstappen said with a smile on his face. "The long runs are okay, but when it really matters and you have to push, in the last few races we have been lacking a little bit and I just hope that we made the right calls in terms of setup for today."
So it will possibly come down to the team's strategic choices: "We've been good at that lately. It's always very heavy on tyres. You never know what can happen throughout the race, so we'll keep that in mind and we’ll find out soon how quick we are."
In front of all the Orange fans present in Hungary, Verstappen still concluded in Dutch: "So far I had hoped for a bit more this weekend, but hopefully we will be a bit stronger in the race and we will see."
