Modifications to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit

Ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend, the FIA has made an adjustment to one of the two DRS zones on the track. The DRS zone will be a lot shorter. After much criticism about the DRS being too powerful there, the FIA has now listened.

The Spa-Francorchamps circuit has been on the F1 calendar for a long time. This, and the track's iconic layout, make it a favourite of several drivers. The circuit's organisers have long been renovating various parts next to the track to keep them easily accessible.

Adjustments on the straight at Spa

In addition, part of the track has been resurfaced. This brings several new challenges with regard to tyre management. The track has two DRS zones. The first DRS zone on the 'Kemmel' straight has been shortened by 75 metres. The start of this zone is thus a lot further away from the exit of 'Raidillon'. The second DRS zone remains the same.

It remains to be seen until when Formula 1 will continue to run at the iconic circuit in Belgium. The contract currently runs until 2025. After that, there might be an annual alternation with Zandvoort. However, the organisers of the Belgian Grand Prix do not see this happening.
