Huge disappointment for Hamilton who loses to Russell: 'One of those days'
Lewis Hamilton was evidently disappointed with his P2 finish at the Belgian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver finished narrowly behind his teammate George Russell, despite leading for a portion of the race.
How did Hamilton feel after finishing second at Spa?
Despite winning at Spa four times in the past, Hamilton failed to make it a fifth. Speaking to Guenther Steiner after the race, Hamilton revealed his disappointment over finishing behind his teammate: "I mean, I was trying to get closer, obviously, but George did a great job on going long. Every stint I had tyres left, but the team pulled me in. Unfortunate, but it is one of those days," the seven-time world champion said.
Whilst his teammate opted for a one-stop strategy, Hamilton went for two. Nevertheless, he remained surprised at the team's performance overall this weekend: "We had such a disaster on Friday. The car was really nowhere and we made some changes. Hard to see what it was going to feel like obviously because of the way yesterday but the car was fantastic today and we really owe it to everyone both here."
The Belgian Grand Prix was the final race before the summer break. Hamilton hopes for more improvement and success as he enters the second half of the season, and his last with Mercedes. "If we can continue this kind of performance that we've had the last few races which has been fantastic, f we can start our weekends off a little bit better, then hopefully we can continue," he concluded.
