The British media have sensed George Russell's heartbreak as he saw victory fall through his fingers over 90 minutes after the chequered flag dropped. The British media believe Russell's luck is turning from bad to worse after a series of heartbreaks in recent weeks.

BBC Sport

The BBC highlighted just how much of a surprise victory was for Mercedes after their performance on Friday. The "'tyre whisperer' shocks the paddock," says the subheading. "No-one predicted a Mercedes victory at the start of a race that many in F1 expected to devolve into a fight between the McLaren drivers and Verstappen." The British broadcasters also highlighted that Piastri, and therefore McLaren, could've had a better result had he not hit his jackman during a pitstop.

The Sun

British tabloid paper, The Sun, highlighted just how special Russell's performance was during the Belgian Grand Prix. "He [Russell] put in an extraordinary drive to run an unusual one-stop strategy," The Sun wrote before seeing how Lewis Hamilton got rewarded. "Hamilton was rewarded for his early dominance by taking the race win. Russell's victory was snatched away as he was brutally disqualified." The red top also highlighted how Russell got unlucky in Hungary qualifying with a fuel problem and an unlucky retirement at the British Grand Prix, which also saw his teammate take victory. "Russell’s luck has gone from bad to worse."

The Guardian

The Guardian decided to assess the full spectrum of emotions for Russell after the Belgian Grand Prix. "George Russell ran the full gamut of emotion from euphoria to heartbreak in what must have been the most painful race of his career," wrote The Guardian in their report. "As the slings and arrows go, even fortune herself might feel this went beyond the outrageous." Russell has just two race wins to his name, which is significantly less than what he would've thought he'd get when he signed with Mercedes.

The Daily Mail

The Daily Mail saw that Russell had gone for a brave move. "Even an outlook as positive as that will struggle to console Russell after this cruel blow. They say fortune favours the bold and it looked like the bravest of calls had delivered the very sweetest of rewards for Russell, who started the day down in sixth."
