Williams cut the ties with Sargeant

Logan Sargeant has been ousted from his seat at Williams and will no longer compete in the 2024 Formula 1 season. Williams have confirmed that Franco Colapinto will complete the rest of the season on behalf of Williams. He will join Alex Albon at the team. 

Sargeant has struggled to match Albon throughout his career at Williams. After the summer break, the American returned to the cockpit but crashed heavily in FP3. It was a costly mistake, as he was driving with the upgrades. Williams have, therefore, decided to push Sargeant aside and replace him with Franco Colapinto.

The Williams team thanked Logan Sargeant for his hard work and contribution over the past two seasons in a statement published on Tuesday afternoon. The change comes into play immediately. Colapinto will make his debut at the Italian Grand Prix weekend. James Vowles explained why the change had been made.

Who is Franco Colapinto?

At the end of 2023, Colapinto made the move to F2, where he again drove for MP Motorsport. He also became part of the Williams Racing Driver Academy. He made his F1 debut during the first free practice for the 2024 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, having already participated in the 2023 post-season test in Abu Dhabi. Colapinto, who until then was active in Formula 2 on behalf of MP Motorsport and was sixth in the championship, will finish the 2024 season in place of the American.
