Brundle concludes: 'With this, Wolff is trying to destabilise rivals'

That Toto Wolff has been trying to sign Max Verstappen for some time now is no secret. The Mercedes team principal has publicly laid out the red carpet for the three-time world champion on several occasions. Although it was recently announced that Verstappen is definitely not going to Mercedes in 2025, Wolff continues to flirt with Verstappen. Ahead of the race weekend, the Austrian said that communication with Verstappen always remains open. According to Sky Sports F1 pundit, Martin Brundle, Wolff says this deliberately to destabilise Red Bull.
Brundle argues that Wolff is also not considering Verstappen as a possible driver option in 2026, but is mainly talking about Verstappen to throw Red Bull off guard. "I don't think so. I think with Toto there's as much mischief to destabilise Red Bull as there is to try to stabilise Mercedes. When he was saying that he had George one side of him on Thursday and Kimi Antonelli the other side of him."
Brundle has advice for Wolff
The analyst advises Wolff not to look at other drivers. "I was reminded that they actually control/manage both those drivers careers as well. George is the lead driver of a great Mercedes-Benz team going into a season where the car looks like it could be strong. It's all there for the taking for him. I don't think he needs to be looking at his rear view mirrors at other drivers right now."
