Adrian Newey has said more than once that he would have liked to work with Fernando Alonso. The two have always managed to avoid other in their Formula 1 careers so far, but will get the chance to work together from 2025. Newey looks forward to working alongside with the two-time F1 world champion.
Newey looks forward to working with Alonso
"We've battled against each other for so many years. He's been a bit of an arch-enemy at times," Newey said when talking about the Aston Martin driver. "We came so close to him joining Red Bull in 2008 for the 2009 season, but unfortunately it didn't quite happen, which is a shame. So we continued to battle against each other. He's a legend of the sport, so very much looking forward to working with him."
Newey also looks forward to working with Alonso's teammate, Lance Stroll. "Lance I've known for many years back from his F3 days, where my lad Harry was also racing F3 the same time that Lance was. I admired him. He dominated the second half of that year in F3," said Aston Martin's new Managing Technical Partner.
Alonso previously indicated that he would be honoured to work with the 'genius' Newey. He reinforced those words after the official announcement. The 43-year-old Spaniard called it an "incredible day for the team" and called Aston Martin "the team of the future".
