Sainz certain Ferrari are still in the championship hunt "Let's go for it!"

Ferrari remains in the constructor's championship fight with just eight races to go. The third-placed Scuderia are just 39 points behind first-placed Red Bull and could well be a threat to Red Bull and McLaren's constructor's title aspirations. After a fourth-placed finish in Monza, a race which his teammate Charles Leclerc won, Carlos Sainz is feeling reinvigorated and ready to continue Ferrari's constructors challenge. The Spaniard explained how the Italian team are still in the fight to GPblog in the paddock of the Baku City Circuit ahead of this weekend's Grand Prix.
Ferrari hasn't had a particularly exceptional season but still remains in the fight. When asked by GPblog whether or not he was surprised that Ferrari was still in a realistic title battle, the Spaniard said: "Yes, because, as you said, I don't know how many races there's been between Monaco and Monza. One-third of the season, maybe. We had a strong first third, a bad second third, and now we are entering the last third of the season," Sainz began.
Sainz: 'It shows how far this team has come'
"We've had a poor middle part of the season, and we are still in the fight. It shows how far this team has come in terms of executing well races and managing to score points even when the car is not performing like it did at the beginning of the season or like it did in Monza. And that's kept us in the fight and how well I think the two drivers are also performing because I think we are both very consistent," Sainz explained. Ferrari has won three races with its SF-24 so far in 2024. Sainz picked up one of these in Melbourne early on, with Leclerc winning the other two in Monaco and Monza, respectively.
Ferrari can 'go for it'
"We're always next to each other, we are always helping each other, we are always scoring points, the two of us [are] maximising the car. So I think we are doing a solid year together, and this has kept us with good race management by the team and good race execution with teams and drivers in the fight in a difficult season. So yes, let's see if now we have that same performance as in Monza and Monaco, and we can go for it." Sainz concluded.
The three-time Grand Prix winner will be joining Williams after the 2024 season, so he will be hoping his last eight races with the iconic marque will be successful.
