Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen see that Red Bull Racing is losing ground in both Formula 1 world championships. McLaren, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, seems to be the team to beat at the moment. Still, Perez is confident this weekend. The current number seven in the drivers' championship thinks the weekend will turn out better than in Monza.

In any case, the Mexican travelled to Azerbaijan's capital with confidence. "I think this [weekend] should be a lot better. I already felt better in the simulator, so I'm coming here a lot more positive than the last few weekends. Definitely Monza was very difficult. So I do expect us to be closer to the front than the last few weekends," Perez said.

The gap between Perez and Verstappen

The gap between Verstappen and Perez was smaller in Monza than it has been at other places this season. Asked if Perez can stay close to the Dutchman again this weekend, the driver with number 11 on the car responded with: "Yes, but hopefully at the front. That will be the target."

Perez is sometimes referred to as the king of street circuits. "The confidence is high in this place, but at the same time I know that what you've done in the past, it doesn't matter. It's a whole new challenge and I really hope that I can find the right balance around this place, because you need a lot of confidence. And if I'm able to do that then it should be a strong weekend."
