Leclerc thinks Ferrari are not at the level of Red Bull and McLaren
- Estéban den Toom
Ferrari still have a chance of winning the Constructors' World Championship. The Italian team are just 39 points behind leaders Red Bull Racing. Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have remained fairly consistent this season, even in tougher periods. The latter gives a heads-up of the situation currently.
Leclerc on where Ferrari currently stands
"I don't think we are at the level of McLaren and Red Bull yet," said the Monegasque to a select group of media, including GPblog. "I think, like in Monza, when they don't optimise their package, we can be here and try and win it, and we did it in Monza. However going forward we still have some steps forward to be done in order to challenge them consistently."
The Ferrari driver is aware that the Ferrari is not the fastest car on the Formula 1 grid. "They still have the faster car, especially McLaren I think. Then it's probably Red Bull. And then Mercedes. It depends with us, we are a bit more inconsistent but we still have some work to do."
Sainz on world title with Ferrari
Sainz also spoke about chances for a world title with Ferrari on Thursday's traditional media day in Azerbaijan. In response to a question from GPblog, the Spaniard answered at length about the season so far, and how the constructor got so many points.
