13 September at 09:20

Sergio Perez could remain at Red Bull Racing following the summer break. The Mexican struggled with the RB20, but indeed, the car now proves to be difficult to handle for the defending world champion, Max Verstappen. With the team's current package, however, Perez believes the upcoming Grands Prix in Azerbaijan and Singapore could suit the Austrians.

Red Bull Racing know that changes are necessary get back to the top, as the team are now introducing a new floor this weekend in Baku. According to Perez, the issue with the handling was already present since the beginning of the year, but Verstappen's driving style could mask that issue.

"I think they've believed me since the beginning, but probably they felt like it was not so noticeable and Max was coping well with them, it was not such an issue," Perez told GPblog and others. "But like I said, it's something that will help both drivers, but like I've said before it will help me even more because of of the driver style I have," he added.

Perez sees opportunities in Baku and Singapore

Helmut Marko, Red Bull's advisor, expects the Grands Prix in Azerbaijan and Singapore to be quite a challenge for the team and the RB20, and also declared that he hopes Mercedes could take some points away from McLaren this weekend. Sergio Perez, however, thinks otherwise.

"I think at the moment with the current package we have, these two should be our best tracks to coming up, [in terms of] races should be our best ones. So I do expect us to look more competitive here. But if we are able to fix the issue, then we can get back to contention. Because it's something that can bring a lot of lap time to us," the Mexican said.
