F1 Today | Piastri wins action-packed GP, Norris cuts the gap to Verstappen
In an exciting Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri was crowned victorious on the streets of Baku. Lando Norris managed to cut the gap to Max Verstappen in the drivers' standings, while McLaren could take the lead in the constructors' standings as well. Piastri wins exciting race in Baku
The young Australian has earned his second Grand Prix victory in Formula One in Baku this Sunday. In a nail-biting race, the McLaren driver finished ahead of Charles Leclerc. Also in contention for the podium, Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez crashed into each other, and therefore, George Russell claimed a lucky P3 in Azerbaijan. Youngsters Gabriel Bortoleto and Oliver Bearman also finished in the points, with the Argentinian finishing in P8 and Bearman crossing the line in tenth position.
Starting from P15 on the grid, Lando Norris finished the race in fourth position, one place ahead of Max Verstappen. The Briton also earned the fastest lap of the race, therefore, he earned three more points than his rival. The gap between the two drivers currently stands at 59 points. McLaren team orders still confuse Christian Horner
According to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, McLaren are still not functioning like his team are in terms of team orders. Whereas Red Bull have a clear number one, Horner doubts McLaren's solution is working, because "the confusion comes when you're not upfront from the beginning of what your plans are," the Briton told GPblog among others in Baku.
During the race, Lando Norris did have to help out Piastri, but he could finish ahead of championship-rival Max Verstappen. Following the race, Andrea Stella also declared that the team will continue to favour Norris.
Verschoor wins F2 Feature Race
It was not the first time Richard Verschoor could sit at a press conference as the winning driver in F2, but the Dutchman was not disqualified this time and therefore could earn an emotion victory for the Trident team. The F2 Feature Race began with an enormous crash, and finished with the Dutchman claiming the victory ahead Victor Martins and Andrea Kimi Antonelli. In terms of the championship, Gabriel Bortoleto now leads the standings ahead of Isack Hadjar by four and a half points. Moreover, GPblog have learned that AIX Racing will say goodbye to - the last the least, underperforming -, Niels Koolen.
