Sergio Perez points out weakness in Red Bull F1 car
17 September at 12:00

Sergio Perez was ahead of his teammate Max Verstappen on the grid in Baku for the first time in 17 races this season. The Mexican performed well in the race, and a podium was on the cards until his crash with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz. The incident ended the opportunity for either to stand on the rostrum. Perez seems positive heading into the Singapore Grand Prix after showing some promising pace in Baku.

Perez loves street circuits. Five of his six victories have come on street circuits. The so-called 'king of the streets' secured one of his victories at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore, where he crossed the finish line first in 2022. The Mexican also thinks that the Singapore circuit could be one of his better circuits.

Perez: 'The car is too sensitive'

"Yeah, I think in terms of pace, yes, it's been a strong one. I do expect Singapore as well, probably. The ride can be a little bit trickier there, but it should be a good weekend," Perez said in response to a question from GPblog. His pace in Baku and his positive street circuit record means 'Checo' is feeling ready to bounce back in Singapore.

"That's definitely encouragement, but I'm aware that there's still a lot of work to do," Perez explains. "Because when you see with Max how much he struggled on the weekend, I think he probably was a touch or two out of the setup, and then it's a huge difference in terms of the weekend. It keeps showing that the car is too sensitive, so we have some work to do. I think we've done a good step, but we need another two steps like this." The Mexican concluded. Red Bull lost their lead in the constructor's title to McLaren after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and now sit 20 points behind the British team.
