F1 Sergio Perez having disaster day in Singapore
Today at 19:30

Max Verstappen once again squeezed everything he could out of his RB20 as he crossed the line in second place in Singapore. On the other hand, teammate Sergio Perez finished in tenth place, picking up just one point in the process. The Mexican had another tough race and reflected on his difficult evening after the dust had settled at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. According to 'Checo', Sunday's mediocre result can be traced back to his poor qualifying result.

When asked if a tenth-placed result was the maximum achievable from Sunday, the Mexican said: "I think so. I think we had a pretty good lap 1, but unfortunately, we didn't capitalise on it. Unfortunately, Carlos did the undercut on us and looking at it, given how difficult it was to overtake today, we really needed to be a little bit further ahead," he began in the paddock.

'Total disaster' for Perez in Singapore

The Mexican did not exactly enjoy the Singapore Grand Prix. 'Checo' spent much of the race stuck behind the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg, who kept the Red Bull at bay. Hulkenberg finished the race in front of Perez in ninth place. "Yeah, it was a total disaster to be behind Nico for the entire race. That was quite a painful afternoon," he said.

Positives noted: 'We balanced it out better'

"I think we balanced it out a little bit better. Yeah, I think it's a shame, really, that we just qualified so far out of position. I think, in hindsight, we know what things we did wrong, and we got to come back properly in Austin. I think it's where we can show our true pace because the car should be a lot better in a more standard circuit." The Red Bull driver concluded.

Red Bull now sits 41 points behind McLaren in the constructor's championship, and Perez will be hoping to improve to claw back some possible points squandered from this weekend in Singapore.
