Daniel Ricciardo finished 18th and last in the Singapore Grand Prix last Sunday, as Kevin Magnussen and Alexander Albon failed to reach the finish. Besides helping Max Verstappen take a World Championship point from Lando Norris (for the fastest race lap), Ricciardo was named Driver of the Day. The Australian is grateful for that.

With 20 per cent of the votes, Ricciardo was awarded the title Driver of the Day. Never before had the fan vote been won by a driver who finished so low. Of course, it had everything to do with the fact that the VCARB driver will likely be replaced by Liam Lawson in Austin.

"I'll be honest, I don't think the driver of the day normally means much to us drivers. It's nice but it's not something we brag about. But today, obviously the fans read the media and know that this could be my last one. So I think it's a really nice gesture from them and it is appreciated. I do acknowledge that and I thank them for being a part of it and and acknowledging my efforts and my love for the sport," said the Perth-based man.

Ricciardo's Formula One career is expected to be over if he does get swapped for Liam Lawson. Then, the only seat remaining is at Sauber/Audi, but that vacancy has most likely already been filled as well. Valtteri Bottas is likely to sign an extension at the team.
