Sainz refuses to rule out World title with Williams: 'Then I'm able to win'
Carlos Sainz is not ruling out winning a Formula 1 World Championship with Williams. The Spanish driver will move to the Grove-based team after the 2024 season after Ferrari opted to sign Lewis Hamilton alongside Charles Leclerc for the 2025 season.
Sainz's current focus is on scoring good results for Ferrari, who could still advance further forward in the Constructors' World Championship. After this year, he turns his attention to Williams and hopes to restore the legendary F1 team's former glory.
Sainz recently turned 30 and is at the peak of his career. The Spanish driver has plenty of experience with a variety of teams, knows how to win races in Formula 1, and can play the team game when necessary. Yet he is dropping down the grid.
Sainz: "I want to become world champion soon"
"I have full trust that I have every attribute I need to be world champion, and if one day they give me the right car, at the right place at the right time, I’m going to be able to win it," Sainz said in a conversation with Straits Times. He does not want to wait too long for that moment: "I wish to become a world champion soon," he added.
After four seasons at the Italian racing team, where he will have to make way for Lewis Hamilton next year, he admits he will miss his current teammate Charles Leclerc. "We’ve built a very strong relationship over these four years... and we’ve managed to keep a very mature relationship, being very competitive and very successful as we brought Ferrari a lot of good points and good race victories," he concluded.
