F1 Today | Kamala Harris on F1 love; Andretti names his 2024 F1 Champion
Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate for the upcoming elections in the United States, has revealed her love for Formula 1 and who her favourite driver is but admits she struggles to watch it during the campaign.
Meanwhile, Mario Andretti has exclusively revealed to GPblog who he is backing to be the 2024 F1 world champion, and South Africia's Minister of Sport has claimed that the sport will "definitely" return to the country.
Harris reveals love for F1
On a Howard Stern broadcast, the current Vice-President Kamala Harris revealed she loves Formula 1, but admits it is a struggle watching it whilst running for President. Harris also made clear who her favourite driver was, admitting she is a fan of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Harris was asked if it was a campaign stunt. "No. God no. No. Actually, I haven't been able to watch it recently because I am campaigning, also depending on where they are driving, the time of day, you have to wake up..."
Harris will face Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the November election. Trump appeared at the Miami Grand Prix earlier in the season, which Lando Norris won. Formula 1 has two more races in the United States before the end of the 2024 season. The teams and drivers will first visit Austin in Texas later this month before going to Las Vegas in late November.
Verstappen or Norris. This is who Mario Andretti is backing
In an exclusive interview with GPblog, Mario Andretti has revealed who he thinks will win the 2024 Formula 1 world title. He believes that whilst Verstappen is no longer dominating as he used to, the Dutchman will still walk away with the championship come Abu Dhabi.
Andretti also spoke about how he believes the sport could be on the verge of another era of dominance, admitting "dominance in F1 is nothing new".

Will F1 return to South Africa?
According to South Africa's Minister of Sport, Art and Culture, F1 returning to South Africa is on the cards. Speaking to motorsport social media personality LalliesF1, Gayton McKenzie said “I can tell you this, F1 is definitely coming [to South Africa]. F1 told us they’re keen to come, they told us what they’ll need to come, and we are going to give them what they need to come.”
Formula 1 has not visited the continent of Africa since 1993 when Alain Prost won at Kyalami. In the 30 years since F1 has visited every continent apart from Africa and Antarctica. Earlier in the season, Lewis Hamilton made a plea for the sport to return to the country and to stop "continuing to ignore Africa".
