Stefano Domenicali: 'F1 is not just competing against other motorsports'
Stefano Domenicali has outlined his plans for Formula 1 over the next decade. The CEO believes Formula 1 is no longer just competing against other forms of motorsport but actually directly with other entertainment streams.
The 2024 Formula 1 season will resume with the United States Grand Prix later this month. It will mark the second race in the United States this season after Miami in May. F1 will return to the States in November for the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Domenicali highlights this as a growth point.
"It's really fascinating because just a couple of years [ago] we were struggling to have one race. Then in the blink of an eye, we moved from one to three races and the attention is growing dramatically," the F1 CEO told BBC.
Who is Formula 1's competition?
F1 wants to continue to grow. Domenicali has a clear plan for this. "Our audience are watching movies, they're watching events. We are one of them. We need to think big. We are not anymore believing to compete with other sports with four wheels. So that's our push. To make sure that we understand that if you want to compete in a market that is full of different offers, we need to be strong," he added.
"I want to make sure that F1 is a very inclusive platform loved all around the world where people have fun and enjoy to be part of it. Making sure there's always respect and the world can learn from us on how to behave," he concluded.
