Aston Martin announce F2 junior for Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi
Aston Martin have announced that Jak Crawford will be completing this year's Young Driver Test at the Yas Marina Circuit on behalf of their team, the team report ahead of the US Grand Prix at COTA. The Aston Martin junior currently competes in Formula 2, and is in fifth position in the drivers' standings.
The 19-year-old will first drive his team's current car, the AMR24 for the first time that event. The American previously drove the AMR22 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria as well. Pirelli's end-of-season tyre test will take place in Abu Dhabi after the F1 season concludes, and the British team are still yet to announce who will pair up with the American, who has won a single feature race in the 2024 F2 season so far.
Crawford 'excited' about the opportunity
"I’m excited about the opportunity of driving the AMR24 for the first time in Abu Dhabi. I’ve spent lots of hours on the simulator back at the AMR Technology Campus, and I will be continuing this ahead of the test to make sure I am well prepared. Yas Marina is a circuit I know well, so hopefully this will help me get up to speed quickly. I would like to say a big thanks to everyone at Aston Martin Aramco for the chance to drive this year’s car in the test," Crawford said about the opportunity.
Mike Krack is also pleased with Crawford taking part in the past this year. "We’re looking forward to giving Jak the opportunity to drive the AMR24 in Abu Dhabi as part of his role in the Aston Martin Aramco Young Driver Development programme.
"He’s already shown a high level of understanding in previous tests with us this year and I know he will be working hard in preparation for the test alongside competing in the final two rounds of the F2 Championship," the team principal concluded.
