Max Verstappen's sprint victory in Austin means he has extended his championship lead over Lando Norris. The Briton finished only third. This ensures that Verstappen has gained two more points. The difference between the two is now 54 points.

Verstappen won the sprint race in Austin in dominant fashion. The Dutchman started from pole position and managed to turn it into a victory. This ensures Verstappen takes home eight points on Saturday. His title rival, Norris, threw away his second place on the last lap. Norris ended up finishing third in Austin.

This ensures that Norris only takes home six points after Saturday. Verstappen is thus two points off after the sprint race.
