Max Verstappen hopes to keep momentum to beat Lando Norris

Max Verstappen says it is crucial he and Red Bull Racing "keep the momentum" after a positive United States Grand Prix. The three-time World Champion didn't win the Grand Prix, but he did extend his lead in the Formula 1 World Championship and dealt a big blow to Lando Norris' title aspirations. The Dutchman hopes to continue the success, but highlights how Red Bull need to "iron out issues" following the upgrades.

Key Red Bull staff members, including Christian Horner, pinned their hopes on improvements at the United States Grand Prix. It resulted in Verstappen's first F1 race win since June and the first time he managed to gain on Norris since the summer break.

"We made some good steps in Austin and we need to keep this momentum heading forwards," Verstappen said. "Mexico is always a great race and, of course, it is Checo’s home race so is always an incredible atmosphere. The track is at such a high altitude, which you do need to adjust to a bit more, but we have historically done well here and I have always enjoyed driving at this track."

Though Verstappen still has an area to improve. "We made some good steps in Austin and saw some promising improvements with the car, but it wasn’t quite enough for the Race. The Team are working hard to iron out these issues, but ultimately it was a step forward in the right direction and to win the Sprint was a boost for the Team."

Verstappen wants to take 'crucial points' in Mexico

Now, according to Verstappen, the important thing is to hold on to all this: "We are heading into the second race of the triple header so it will be about keeping this momentum heading forwards and continuing to gain crucial points in the Championship."
