Liam Lawson feedback from Christian Horner and Helmut Marko

Lawson reveals his feedback from Horner and Marko: 'That's the expectation'

Liam Lawson has shed some light on the feedback he received from Red Bull team boss Christian Horner and external advisor Helmut Marko. Lawson returned to Formula 1 last weekend and immediately impressed with a points finish from the back of the grid. However, the New Zealander isn't getting too carried away with that performance because he knows he has to back it up in Mexico.

Sergio Perez is under increasing heat and scrutiny. In COTA, the Red Bull driver was still far away from his teammate Max Verstappen and even finished behind pit lane starter George Russell. He is contracted to drive for Red Bull in 2025, but there is strong doubt about that due to his performance. Marko made it clear that Perez's Red Bull contract is meaningless without performance.

If Perez is deemed not good enough, one of the drivers Horner could replace him with is Lawson. The Visa Cash App RB driver has completed one Grand Prix. After the race, Horner said he was impressed, but what did he say to Lawson?

What feedback did Horner and Marko give to Lawson?

Lawson reveals he was told he did a "good job". "But obviously the expectation is to carry on performing as well so one weekend's not enough to do too much. They're obviously happy with how it went but this is a very different style of circuit so we have to really put a lot of effort into these weekends. Honestly, the preparation is very important to how we perform overall," Lawson said in Mexico.

Lawson will complete three full practice sessions (plus an extra 30 minutes) this weekend rather than just 60 minutes like last weekend. He will also take no grid penalty, so he gets to start where he qualified. However, Lawson says this doesn't necessarily make it easier.

"It's an unconventional track as well. With the altitude here, with the style of circuit, it's going to be completely different to drive. It's nice that we have a bit more time to build into it but I'm expecting it to be very very hard. I'm not expecting to start where we left off in Austin. Even if we have a good weekend, we have to reset for the next one because we're starting from zero a little bit," the New Zealander added.
