Zak Brown doubtful about McLaren right to review Norris penalty

Brown has doubts over right to review meeting with the FIA: 'Not so sure'

McLaren CEO Zak Brown isn't confident the team will be successful with their Right to Review Lando Norris' penalty. McLaren has a meeting with the FIA stewards as they look to introduce fresh evidence to the case, but Brown has his doubts about the meeting being successful.

With the Right to Review, McLaren want to demonstrate that there is other, new evidence that makes the penalty for Norris - who eventually finished fourth behind Verstappen - unjustified. A hearing on this will occur this Friday via video call at 21:30 UK time (14:30 local time). If the stewards decide that there is new evidence, the incident will be reassessed. In extreme cases, the penalty can be revised.

What will McLaren show to the stewards?

"Stuff to talk to them about. And we'll leave it to that. I don't think it's appropriate for us to discuss it prior to our meeting," Brown said before revealing his doubts about the situation in a conversation with Viaplay.

"I'm not so sure. It's pretty hard to win appeals. I think we've got reason to appeal and the FIA have accepted to hear it. So I think if they didn't think we had something meaningful to say, there'd even be a meeting. So we'll see," Brown said just prior to the call.

What does Brown want to change in F1?

In wake of the incident between Norris and Verstappen, the future of the regulations has been a key talking point in the paddock. Brown wants to see less rules involved in the sport. "So I think we need to open up and just leave it a little bit more to the F1 stewards to use their discretion because you guys will all know what's going on, and we can't let lawyers around the legality of rules dictate race outcomes," Brown said in a conversation with the stewards.
