Stewards announce their verdict on Albon and Bearman after FP1 crash
Alex Albon will receive no further action after he crashed with Oliver Bearman during the first free practice session. The stewards called both drivers for a meeting after the session. There is no penalty for the Williams driver.
It was a strange moment in FP1. Albon was pushing hard and came up behind a slower-moving Ollie Bearman, who tried to stay out of the way. Albon came off the throttle. He couldn't avoid the contact and clipped the front of the Ferrari car, damaging Bearman's car and throwing Albon into the wall. It ended the session for both drivers.
Why stewards gave no further update
"Bearman was on a cool down lap with the team letting him know about cars behind. Albon was on a fast lap. Just after Turn 9, Bearman, who was recharging and thus going relatively slow, pulled to the right. When Albon came around T9, he had Bearman in front of him and lifted. Because the car was under significant loading in
the corner, it caused him to oversteer," the report reads.
"Both drivers agreed that Bearman's positioning was not unreasonable but was unfortunate as it was close to Albon's line. Had Bearman been slightly further down the track it would not have resulted in an incident. All parties agreed that it was a racing incident."
