F1 fans in Mexico are in shock after Sergio Perez was eliminated from Q1 at the Mexican Grand Prix weekend. The local hero was supposed to shine in front of his home fans, but it's turning into a nightmare for the Red Bull driver. The Mexican media talk about a disaster.

Perez will start his home race from 18th on the grid. The crowd cheered for their driver, but it didn't help push him forward on the grid. The early elimination was met with disappointment.

Disaster for Perez and his fans

Mexican newspaper Esto, the paper that continued to defend Perez, speaks about a "complete disaster". "Checo could not have started his second day of the Mexican Grand Prix weekend worse. The Mexican performed poorly and was eliminated after the first part of qualifying," according to the Mexican media's website.

The Mexican Récord is also harsh. They headline with the word 'Tragedy!' The same media outlet closed with some lines of hope. Namely that Perez could still drive to a place in the top ten with a catch-up race and that a surprise can never be ruled out.

Perez's poor performance comes at a weekend when the Mexican was once again defended by team boss Christian Horner. The latter reiterated that Perez simply has a contract for 2025 and so there is no pressure on his position. Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson continue to knock on the door in the hope of being allowed to sit alongside Max Verstappen in 2025.
