Debate | Perez proves Red Bull should have sacked him already
Today at 01:04

Sergio Perez has experianced another low point in his self-proclaimed "terrible" season with an 18th place in qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix. Therefore, GPblog's post-qualifying statement reads as follows: Perez once again proves that Red Bull should have sacked him a long time ago. Let us know in the comments if you agree with the statement.

The weekend in Mexico was actually already the last chance for Sergio Perez to prove Christian Horner right. The Red Bull Racing team boss was the one who supported Perez and kept him on as a Red Bull Racing driver after the summer. He said Perez's good races were still to come but that has not materialised.

Azerbaijan was Perez's only highlight, but even there a good result was thrown away after he crashed with Carlos Sainz. Again zero points and a lot of damage for the team.

Perez costs Red Bull Racing the world title

Red Bull Racing has known for years that Perez performs far less than Max Verstappen in the same car. The Mexican has been sitting, on an average qualifying gap of four tenths since 2021 and in the race he is also too slow. This was less noticeable in 2022 and 2023 due to Red Bull's dominant car, but could have been seen by Red Bull in the data a long time ago.

However, Red Bull stuck with Perez, probably because of his fans in Latin America buying merchandise, the sponsors Perez brings and the upcoming Disney documentary on Perez launched around the Mexican GP. However, it has put Red Bull into a huge slump sport-wise.

Whereas Max Verstappen, even in Mexico, continues to fight for his world title, Red Bull have slipped away in the Constructors' Championship. Perez is eighth in the standings for the world title and is the only reason Red Bull has been overtaken by McLaren and is likely to be overtaken by Ferrari this weekend.

Therefore, GPblog's post-qualifying statement reads as follows: Perez proves once again that Red Bull should have fired him a long time ago. Let us know in the comments if you agree with the statement.
