F1 Sergio Perez early exit sprint qualifying what went wrong Brazil

Perez reacts to another difficult session: 'It was confusing...'

After a disappointing result at his home Grand Prix in Mexico City, Sergio Perez's Brazilian Grand Prix did not start any better. The Mexican got eliminated in SQ2 on Friday, and as a result, will have to start from P13 on the grid during tomorrow's Sprint.

Another poor result for Perez

"Sprint weekends are always a bit of an unknown, especially here at Interlagos," said Perez, who was faster than Max Verstappen in SQ1, but then failed to reach the final session of the day in Sao Paulo.

"We had a good SQ1, but in to SQ2 we were struggling with the balance and had a bit of understeer with the track coming down. We tried to do something with the brake balance and then ended up too rear limited."

"It was a bit confusing with the run programme, we thought we might have a chance for a second lap at the end, but we didn’t and that ended our day a bit early. We got caught out with the conditions on track today, but we’re looking forward to improving for tomorrow’s qualifying and Sprint race," Perez concluded.

For Red Bull, the weekend in Brazil has been less then ideal. Not only Perez got eliminated early on after he could not complete his second run, but Max Verstappen also finished behind championship rival Lando Norris by two positions. The Dutchman will begin the race from P4, and then will receive a five-second grid penalty for Sunday's Grand Prix.
