Christian Horner disagrees with FIA investigation into Max Verstappen

Why Christian Horner isn't concerned by investigation on Max Verstappen

Christian Horner wasn't concerned by the investigation into Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver finished third in the sprint race and tried to ruin McLaren's one-two finish when the circuit turned green again following a virtual safety car period. However, the stewards want to check Verstappen complied with the rules during the VSC.

Why Horner isn't concerned

The stewards announced the investigation straight after the race had finished. It is for possibly going too fast during the virtual safety car in an attempt to position himself to attack Piastri on the restart.

Horner, however, believes Verstappen did nothing wrong. "On everything we can see, it looks okay. Let's see," the team boss said in a conversation with Sky Sports.

Verstappen told the team to watch out for Piastri dropping backwards. Horner explained this. "He was just conscious that Oscar wasn't dropping back from Lando. Reading the race and looking at all the possibilities," Horner added.

It took a long time for race control to decide to apply the virtual safety car. Nico Hulkenberg's Haas car had been stationary right next to the track for two laps with only a yellow flag in the relevant sector. This gave McLaren opportunity to apply team orders and allow Oscar Piastri to gift the sprint victory to Lando Norris.
