Albon will miss the Brazilian Grand Prix: 'Terrible for Alex'
- Ludo van Denderen
Alexander Albon will definitely not take part in the Brazilian Grand Prix. There is too much damage to his Williams car after a crash in qualifying, and the Williams mechanics were unable to repair his car in time. Franco Colapinto will be able to compete after his crash, with Williams aiming for him to start from the grid rather than the pitlane.
Team principal James Vowles called it a terrible day for Williams with Albon out of the Grand Prix: "We’re here to go racing and nobody wants to be in this situation. The most important point is that all the drivers who had incidents in Qualifying are okay, including Alex and Franco. Despite the best efforts of our hard-working, talented and resilient team, there simply was not enough time to repair Alex’s car in time for the Grand Prix."
Vowles continued on by saying: "It’s a bitter pill to swallow at the end of a tough triple-header, especially when both drivers showed tremendous pace this morning. We will focus on maximising this afternoon with Franco and putting on a show for the incredible fans here in Brazil.”
Damage for Colapinto but he will start
Williams has announced that there was a lot of damage to both cars, including Colapinto's. In the short time between qualifying and the Grand Prix, there is only time to repair the Argentine's car. For many Argentine fans present, he can therefore start later that day to their delight.
