Verstappen jokes after victory: 'When I'm angry, it works'
- Jeroen Immink
Max Verstappen could mathematically seal his fourth title in Las Vegas in three weeks time, thanks to his victory at Interlagos, after he started from 17th position. After earning an important win, the Dutchman could not hide his happiness.
Verstappen: 'That's when I'm at my very best'
"My emotions went from left to right over the whole day," Verstappen told Viaplay. "Yes, unbelievable. The speed was right there. We had a world-class start. Then stayed out of trouble, then I was and bit stuck, but then made the right decision with the red flag to stay outside. After that, it was unbearable with the rain. It took a very long time before a red flag came. But after that when I was in the lead, I was unleashed. I never thought this was possible," Verstappen added.
The Dutchman was heavily motivated by the Mexico City Grand Prix and the red flag incident in Q2. "I almost broke the whole garage, I just managed to hold back. I was very motivated when I started the race. I'm at my very best like that," Verstappen said.
When asked about whether he drivers better when he is angry, Verstappen answered: "Yes, I do think so. It doesn't happen often, but when I'm very angry, that does work better. And now f*** off Giedo!", he told former driver Giedo van der Garde with a smile.
Verstappen on the championship
Verstappen could already secure his fourth title in Las Vegas, as the gap between him and Lando Norris stands 62 points. "We just have to take no risks now and ride it out," he said.
