Ferrari mechanic Francesco Cigarini to make return after leg-break pitstop

17 February 2019 at 13:25

During last season's Bahrain Grand Prix, Kimi Raikkonen hit one of his mechanics as he left his Ferrari pit-box. Francesco Cigarini, who broke his leg, will make his return to the pit crew in 2019.

Raikkonen mistakenly received the green light to leave the pit box, but Cigarini was still working on the car. Raikkonen stopped the car further down the pit-lane and retired from the race.

Ferrari picked up a €50,000 fine for the unsafe release, and as a result of the incident, the team slightly changed their pit procedure.

Cigarini confirmed his return on Instagram and wrote: "First day in the box for 2019, first day after the incident".

First day in the box of the 2019, first day after the incident. I thought about this moment as one of a “fixed point” when I was in trouble...and I am happy to achieve it after achieved other important point during this”experience ”, and looking forward to achieve the other fixed point. Gratitude is the feeling. Thanks.
