Verstappen leaves Marko amazed: 'On another planet'
Max Verstappen mastered the rainy conditions at Interlagos, and won the Grand Prix from P17 on the grid. Red Bull Racing's top advisor, Helmut Marko, was very happy with the Dutchman's victory, he told Sky Sports Germany following the Grand Prix.
After qualifying, Verstappen found himself in a different situation, as he got eliminated in Q2 after what he said was a late red flag. After finishing 12th in that session, he also had to deal with a five-place grid penalty. Later, another red flag helped him out, giving him a free pit stop during the race.
Marko enjoys Verstappen victory
"He was from another planet. When he could drive in free air, he was flying around the track. He did some sensational overtaking. I said he would finish on the podium, but with such a demonstration more was possible and so he gave the right answer to what has been happening lately," the advisor reacted.
According to Marko, what makes the driver stand out is that he has incredible control and his instricts, which helped him in these rainy conditions. The advisor also says that Verstappen reaches for the limit more than any of his rivals.
'Verstappen title already within reach'
Thanks to his victory and Lando Norris finishing sixth, the Dutchman leads in the drivers' standings by 62 points. Marko therefore believes "the title is already withing reach." Mathematically speaking, Verstappen has the chance to already win his fourth title in Las Vegas in three weeks.
