Horner digs at Hill after hearing him say "something nice" about Verstappen
Christian Horner took a dig at Damon Hill after the former F1 World Champion delivered some praise to Max Verstappen after a week of negative views about the Dutchman's driving style and attidude within Formula 1. The Red Bull boss was delighted with the outcome of the Brazilian Grand Prix, which saw Verstappen get one hand on a fourth (consecutive) F1 World Championship.
Horner hits back after a week of negativity
Hill made many negative comments about Verstappen's driving style and once compared him to the Wacky Races villain cartoon character Dick Dastardly. Verstappen hit back during the press conference, explaining that he knew what he was doing as he was a three-time World Champion. Hill also highlighted how several rules were introduced because of the Dutchman's behaviour.
Verstappen left the Formula 1 world stunned after winning the Brazilian Grand Prix from 17th on the grid in wet conditions. He gained 18 points on Lando Norris in the World Championship and can now secure his fourth World title at the next event in Las Vegas. Speaking on Sky Sports, Hill summarised Verstappen's performance alongside Red Bull boss Horner.
"Absolutely one of his [Verstappen's] very best. That's one of the drives. We sort of conjectured at the beginning that maybe this would be the day where he could show everyone his brilliance and he's absolutely done that today. What a transformation from this morning when we first spoke," Hill summarised.
Horner was sharp with his response: "I think we're going to have to get that on record that Damon said something nice!"
"Honestly, credit where credit is due. I've never said he's not a great driver. He did that completely cleanly. He slid through the field and showed everyone why he is such a brilliant driver. He's going to be four times world champion," Hill added before Horner encouraged him to "keep going". Hill ended by saying "that's enough".
Hill later made a somewhat ironic post on social media that has caused a storm in the replies. The former Formula 1 World Champion stated that Verstappen "silenced a few critics" after his performance during the Brazilian Grand Prix
