Aston Martin Mike Krack we didn't deliver for Alonso and Stroll

Aston Martin hope to return to F1's 'Premier League': 'We didn't deliver'

While optimism surrounds Aston Martin off the track, on track, the British team's results are less than what they were hoping for, especially given how the 2023 season began. Team principal Mike Krack remained self-critical when assessing the situation, the team report.

Early on in the 2023, Aston Martin looked to be the second force on the grid behind Red Bull Racing, with Fernando Alonso making a regular appearance on the podium. Now, that has disappeared, as the team failed to score points after the autumn break. Alonso last finished inside the Top 10 in Singapore, while Lance Stroll is yet to score since the Hungarian GP.

"Credit to them both [Alonso and Stroll], they’ve conducted themselves really well. It’s in tough times, you find out who’s strong. This year, it actually took me a while to realise how strong they have been," Krack began.

"It’s incredibly tough for them because they’re the ones out in front of the microphones, facing the criticism, while we haven’t delivered what we said we would deliver," the team principal from Luxembourg remained self-critical.

Aston Martin eying improvements for 2025

The Silverstone-based team could attract many great names to join their technical staff. While Adrian Newey and Enrico Cardile will only join next season, the team hope to return to where they were a season ago. "Our goal for the year is to come to Melbourne with a much faster and driveable race car. At the moment, we have a division between the top four teams and the other six, and we’re on the wrong side of it. Success next year will be to bridge that gap and turn the top four into a top five. If we’re back in the Premier League, back in that mix, that will be success," Krack explained.
