A decision on the status of Andretti and their participation in Formula 1 could be made in the coming weeks, with a substantial increase in the chances of acceptance coming as a result of a restructuring within Andretti Global that meant Michael Andretti was put into a smaller role within the organisation.

Andretti may know their F1 future "in the coming weeks"

According to the Associated Press, F1 and Formula One Management (FOM) "could have a decision to grant the General Motors-backed entry a spot as the 11th team on the grid in the coming weeks." The now-majority owner of the Andretti organisation, Dan Towriss, was at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Thursday as he checked out the changes of Andretti entering the pinnacle of motorsport.

Andretti did not get approval from F1 after their first applicati''on was rejected as they looked to try and get themselves on the grid for the 2026 season. However, in September, a change was made to the top team at the American organisation, with Michael Andretti retreating back and minimising his roles within the company that bears his name.

Now, thanks to Towriss, there have been increased talks between Andretti Global and F1. Cadillac, who were looking to supply engines for the team, said they would not be ready until 2028 at least, but a General Motors team could be on the grid with another engine supplier for the 2026 season. As a result, they could become the second American team on the grid along with Haas.

GPblog asked F1 and FOM for a comment on the situation regarding Andretti, to which they responded by saying they would not comment on speculation.
