Verstappen hopes changes to RB20 have a positive effect in race
Max Verstappen will start the Las Vegas Grand Prix from fifth place. The Dutchman himself has no expectations of winning, although he hopes the adjustments will ensure he can at least compete.
"It's been a bit tricky for us this weekend and in qualifying as well. But I'm hoping that we are a little bit more competitive in the race. It will be tough on tyres. It's quite windy today also so let's see how that will influence the cars. Overall, I'm just looking forward to it and hopefully we can just have a strong race," Verstappen said during the drivers' parade.
Can Verstappen win in Las Vegas?
It is windier in Las Vegas, blowing more dirt onto the circuit. "It [wind] will not be ideal. I think on a street circuit in general, normally it's a little bit better when it's very open and the wind has a bigger influence but it's still gonna be tough for everyone anyway with the tyres around here. It's very cold, graining might happen and stuff like that so it's very important that we remain calm and hopefully keep the tyres under control."
Verstappen found it difficult to say whether he could compete for victory in Las Vegas. "I don't know, it's difficult to say [if we have the car for the win]. So far we've been lacking speed, but hopefully today with the change that we made yesterday will be a bit more competitive in the race," Verstappen concluded.
