Pierre Gasly retires from Las Vegas Grand Prix

Pierre Gasly expected a positive result with a P3 start in qualifying, but he was let down by his Renault engine, which broke just before the halfway point in the Las Vegas Grand Prix. A puff of smoke was seen coming out of the Alpine car, and that was met with a frustrated radio message from the Frenchman.

Gasly became the first driver to retire from the race. The Alpine driver started from P3 and looked set to score crucial points in the 'Sin City'. Alpine lifted themselves up to P6 after a double podium in Brazil but face stern competition for the prize money. Gasly's teammate, Esteban Ocon, is sat firmly outside the points after 20 laps in the United States.

Renault will no longer supply Alpine with F1 engines after the 2025 Formula 1 season. When the new rules and regulations are introduced in 2026, Alpine will buy engines from Mercedes.
