Alonso hopes for F1 title fight with Verstappen: 'Could be harder for him'
Fernando Alonso wonders if he would be able to make life more difficult for Max Verstappen if he was able to compete for the World Championship titles in Formula 1. The two-time World Champion praised the Dutchman, and hopes to be in the mix when Adrian Newey is designing cars for Aston Martin.
In 2021, there was clearly an exciting battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. The Dutchman eventually managed to beat the Mercedes driver. In the years that followed, Verstappen had it a little easier. Even in 2024, Verstappen wrapped up the title two Grands Prix earlier despite not having the best car for the majority of the season.
Can Alonso beat Verstappen though?
Whether Alonso can beat Verstappen? "Well, that would be a very nice thing to try. To be in a position to fight for a World Championship. At the moment we are not in that position and next year is always going to be difficult. But hopefully, in 2026, with the new rules, we will have a new chance to try this," he said.
"So far Max has proven not having weak points, basically. He has been always delivering the job on Sundays and scoring so many points when the car was good, but so many more when the car was not good as well. That's the strength to win the championship. And you always think that if you have a chance, maybe things could be more difficult for him," Alonso added.
