F1 World constructors' championship standings after Qatar GP

F1 Constructors' Standings | Ferrari end up gaining on rivals McLaren

McLaren could have secured the constructors' world title at the Qatar Grand Prix, but ultimately failed to do so after Lando Norris was heavily penalised by the FIA stewards. As a result, Ferrari still have a chance to win the world title next weekend in Abu Dhabi after they cut the gap to their rivals on Sunday.

McLaren started the Formula 1 weekend at the Losail International Circuit strong, with a one-two finish in the Sprint, but had to settle for starting from the second row of the grid after Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were outqualified by Max Verstappen and George Russell. For the majority of the Grand Prix, Norris was running in P2, but he then received a 10-second stop-and-go penalty.

Moreover, Oscar Piastri missed out on pitting under the second Safety Car, and therefore he was jumped by Leclerc. The Monegasque driver could finish in P2 thanks to both McLaren drivers' misfortune, and Sainz could finish ahead of Norris even with suffering a puncture during the race.

Because of that, the constructors' championship will be decided at the Abu Dhabi GP. The gap between to two teams now stands at 21 points. Meanwhile, in the battle for P6, Alpine now lead by 5 points ahead of Haas thanks to another strong result by Pierre Gasly.
