Fred Vasseur F1 Ferrari defends the stewards after controversy Qatar GP

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur reveals that he is feeling unbothered by the recent shaky situation at the FIA. The Frenchman says that he's 'always' complained about the decisions of those in charge and would prefer to focus on the final racing action of the season in Abu Dhabi.

'We've always complained about the decision of the stewards'

In the paddock, Vasseur was asked if the quality of the race direction had been affected by the recent changes at the FIA. Does he believe that it will have an effect on the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi? "This is always true and was always true, and the last 35 years of my life, we all always complained about the decision of the steward, of the race director, perhaps a bit less with Charlie (Whiting) for different reasons, but it was always the case," Vasseur told GPblog and others.

The Ferrari team boss was also asked about Max Verstappen's one-place grid penalty as well as Lando Norris' 10-second stop-and-go penalty, which cost him a podium finish or even a race win. It was deemed that the Brit missed double-waved yellow flags on the straight and was therefore penalised. "Now, if you want to comment on yesterday what happened, honestly, I didn't even see the video yesterday, but it's into the panel of penalty to put one place of a grid penalty, they can't do it the same for today. It's at their discretion, and they can put this kind of penalty now it depends for sure on the severity of the infringement if he was faster than the previous lap in this mini-sector, and so," he explained.

Vasseur wants to 'focus on Abu Dhabi':

Instead of talking about the penalties, Vasseur would rather focus on the important race weekend ahead for Ferrari. "Let me be focused on Abu Dhabi, and I don't want to start politics now. I try to stay away from all the politics for the season, and I won't start before the last one." The Ferrari boss swiftly concluded before moving on.

Ferrari have a crucial final race weekend coming up, as they sit just 21 points behind McLaren, who are leading the way in the constructor's championship. With just one race to go, it's all to play for at the Yas Marina circuit
