Horner takes a jab at Wolff: 'Thought he would be busy with Hamilton'
- Nicole Mulder
Christian Horner and Toto Wolff have had many 'war of words' in Formula 1, and that list only grew this weekend at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Briton pointed out that the Mercedes team principal "loves to hate him".
Both Formula 1 team principals of course have weighed in on the saga around Max Verstappen and George Russell. Horner believes 100 per cent what his driver says about Russell's behaviour at the now notorious stewards' meeting and backed up his words by stating that others were also surprised by what took place there. Even Sky Sports' lead commentator David Croft spoke out: he said that Verstappen did not swear in the stewards' room.
Horner: 'Toto loves to hate me'
For his part, Wolff was furious that Horner called Russell's behaviour in Qatar "hysterical" also because of how he reacted to not getting the tyre compound he wanted. In turn, the Austrian called his rival a 'yapping terrier' this Thursday, to which Horner responded a day later.
Asked about the ups and downs in his relationship with Wolff, Horner took a jab at Wolff. "I really don't know. I mean, it needs to be about what you do on the track. There's a sort of a love-hate relationship where I think Toto loves to hate me. But it's one of those things. I would have assumed he'd sort of got a bit more on his plate with, obviously it's Lewis's last race for that team. I think they should be celebrating that, rather than focusing on other aspects," the Red Bull team principal said.
