Jos Verstappen adamant on Horner: "Stand by everything I said"
During the earlier stages of the year Red Bull was engulfed in a dire political war which threw the team into chaos. Jos Verstappen was very vocal of his sentiments that landed the responsibility of the situation at the Austrian team's chief door, Christian Horner. Verstappen senior does not regret his open criticism of the Red Bull Racing boss, claims to know why peace is being restored within the team.
Does Jos Verstappen regret his fierce criticism of Horner?
At the Bahrain Grand Prix, a storm that had been brewing since the last part of 2022, came to a head. Horner had allegedly been trying to assert himself as the teamsusole leader in detriment of Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko, thus creating a division among the team's ranks. Jos Verstappen was one of Horner's fiercest critics, if not the most, and even stated to media that the team's chief should step down in a bid to bring stability back to the team's core.
The Dutchman, known for candid and straightforward approach to life, in statements given to De Telegraaf claims to have no regrets on his actions and words earlier in the year and remains firm in his previous statements: "No, not at all. Of course, what the team boss does or doesn't do has an influence on everything that goes on around the team. And therefore around Max. Of course I get involved in that. I see it all happening and I do think I am in a position to say something about it. If I am put on the spot, I will give my opinion. I will never harm Max. I look at the overall picture. In the end, I stand by everything I said."
Is Red Bull going back to a state of calm once again?
With the season now at the team's backs and with Max Verstappen's fourth title already in his pocket, Verstappen sr. sees peace coming back to the Milton Keynes based squad. "I do have that feeling. Top advisor Helmut Marko also seems to have more say again, which I think is a good thing. The team is now growing a bit more together again."
