McLaren managed to win the constructors' title in 2024 for the first time in the current century, but Lando Norris fell short in the drivers' championship. While the Briton hopes he can conquer that achievement next year, Oscar Piastri also likely has similar ambitions. McLaren CEO Zak Brown talked about how the Woking-based side will try to keep both drivers 'in order'.

McLaren were transparent in the 2024 season that they do not have a number one driver, and were hesitant to make team orders even when the public believed those would have been necessary given Norris' position in the standings.

According to CEO Zak Brown, his two drivers at McLaren would not like not to win on merit. "I think our drivers want to win the world championship the right way. They don’t want things handed over to them," he began on the High Performance podcast.

"Oscar supported Lando towards the end of the year. I thought the ironic things was everyone was talking about Oscar supporting Lando, and then the next race in Baku, Lando supported Oscar. So this just shows you, you can only pre-plan so much," Brown continued about the matter.

McLaren will also follow the same strategy in the 2025 season as well. "We start just as we did this year, both drivers with equal opportunities and we see how the season plays out, could get to a situation when one supports the other or we might find they are racing for the championship down to the last race," the CEO explained.
