Verstappen misses out on European Sportsperson of the Year award
After not winning the Sportsman of the Year in the Netherlands, Max Verstappen also missed out on winning the European Sportsperson of the Year awards as well. Voted by 21 news agencies, the Red Bull driver finished fifth.
After missing out on winning the award in his home country, Max Verstappen missed out on the award voted by 21 countries in Europe. French swimmer Leon Marchand won the prize, after he could win four gold medals at the Olympics hosted in Paris.
Completing an incredible season in cycling and winning the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France grand tours, Tadej Pogacar finished second. The Slovenian also rode with Carlos Sainz earlier this year. World Record holder and also Olympic champion Armand Duplantis finished third from Sweden.
The best F1 driver was Max Verstappen, who in fifth place. Previously, after winning the award in 2021 and 2022, for the second year running, the Red Bull driver missed out on the Dutch Sportsman of the Year too. After Mathieu van der Poel was successful in 2023, this year, that prize went to Harrie Lavreysen, who won three gold medals in Paris.
