Hamilton yet to figure out the current cars? 'It's clear he is struggling'
Lewis Hamilton completes his blockbuster transfer this season, as he will now join Ferrari from Mercedes. The Briton did not have the best of time with the current generation of cars, and will have a final year to try to figure it out.
Lewis Hamilton's first victory under these regulations came at the 2024 British Grand Prix, the third season with the current regulations in Formula One. It took the Briton less time to achieve a second victory at Spa-Francorchamps, after George Russell was disqualified.
Now former F1 driver, Kevin Magnussen, sees from experience why drivers who like to brake aggressively struggle. "It's hard because I can't go deep into that data and analyse them as such, but I can see trends. We do have some sort of GPS data. I have been curious to have a look and see if I can find some similarities. It does seem like the drivers that have this particular way of driving as we do, we seem to struggle a bit more than others," the Dane began to GPblog among others.
"I think it's clear that Lewis is struggling," he continued, also explaining that this is the first time something does not click for the British driver. "He's been great in all the different cars he's ever driven, also before Formula 1. [In] Everything, he was great. These cars are very particular. And I think also because of the tyres on top of the cars being aerodynamically and mechanically quite particular, the tyres are also a strange one."
After a final season with the current cars in 2025, another regulation change will take place entering the following year.
