Aston Martin looked set to become another top team after a strong start to the 2023 season. It all turned out differently: the team finished fifth among constructors in 2024 for the second year in a row, with a lot fewer points than in 2023. The other teams have made bigger strides and, according to team boss Mike Krack, this is worrying.

Where other teams were able to make strides after 2023 and especially during the 2024 season, Aston Martin did not. Often a finish in the points was already a task, with teams like Haas and Alpine often beating the Silverstone based team. A year before things looked different, with Fernando Alonso achieving 6 podiums in the first half of the season.

Consequently, Krack stated: "We delivered below expectation, so we cannot be happy with how our season went. We stay in P5, but had the championship started in the summer, we would not finish in P5. So, I think in all we need to reflect on the season and see it very critically."

Next, the Aston Martin team boss stressed that improvements were not made in every area consistently and as a result other areas got worse. Finally, Krack said he believes the team needs to look at itself and will have to draw the right conclusions from that.

A lot is expected from Aston Martin in the immediate future, with Andy Cowell joining the team as CEO, replacing former McLaren man, Martin Whitmarsh, and Adrian Newey joining the team's ranks as Managing Technical Partner. The British designer's focus is said to be for 2026, however, Aston Martin's top brass have often been outspoken about not seeing 2025 as a write off, but actually pushing this upcoming season's car's development as far as it can. Will 2025 finally be a turning point for the British team?
